Sensational scenes: Queenslanders maintain momentum on night two of Australian Swimming Trials

Back in the pool and back on the podium – Queensland athletes were again at their best on Night Two of the 2025 Australian Swimming Trials. QAS-supported athletes added another 15 qualifying times for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships and World Para Swimming Championships.

Alex Perkins continued her breakout meet with a scorching 25.36 PB in the women’s 50m butterfly – her second World Championships qualifier and second Allcomers record in as many nights. Kaylee McKeown backed up her day one win with another qualifying time, posting a world-class 57.71 in the 100m backstroke.

In the men’s 200m freestyle, Edward Sommerville led a powerful QAS trio, storming to a new PB of 1:44.93, with Sam Short (1:45.71 PB) and Flynn Southam right behind.

Alexa Leary came within 0.01 of her own world record in the women’s multi-class 50m freestyle, clocking a qualifying time.

Ella Ramsay won the women’s 100m breaststroke, while Brendon Smith won the men’s 400m individual medley.
