Accessing information held by the QAS
The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is committed to providing access to information unless it is exempt or not in the public interest under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act).
The RTI Act:
- Gives the public access to government-held information
- Protects an individual’s privacy.
You can apply to:
- Access government information, or
- Access or amend your own personal information.
Applicant rights/identity documents
You may:
- Apply anonymously or use a pseudonym
- Be asked to verify your identity when requesting personal information.
Is the information you're looking for already available?
Before submitting a request for information, check whether the information you are seeking is already publicly available. You can search:

- our public lists and registers, (refer to our Governance page)

If you cannot find what you need, contact us and we can help.
Requesting information
In many cases, we can provide information without a formal application. This is called an ‘administrative release’.
We can usually release:
- Non-sensitive, non-confidential information
- You own personal information
Before lodging a RTI request, contact us to discuss the type of information you are requesting and whether it can be released administratively, free of charge and quicker.
Applying for access under the RTI Act
If the information is not available or cannot be released administratively, you can submit a formal RTI application.

Use of this form is not mandatory, but your application must:
- Must be in writing
- Provide enough information to identify documents
- Provide an address for correspondence
- Provide evidence of identity (if applying for your personal information)
- Provide evidence of authority (when making an application on behalf of someone else)
Information about the current fees and charges for applications under the RTI Act is available on the Queensland Government website.
How long it will take to process your application
We will usually respond within 25 business days of receiving a valid application.
This may be extended by up to 10 business days if consultation with third parties is required.
If you are unhappy with a decision
If access is refused in full or in part, you can request a review.
Internal review
You can apply for an internal review of the decision within 20 business days of receiving the decision.

Your internal review application will then be referred to a senior officer to undertake the review.
External review
You can also apply for an independent review through the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC). For guidance on submitting an external review, contact the Office of the Information Commissioner.
How to amend your personal information
You can request amendment to documents containing your personal information if you believe that the relevant information is:
- Inaccurate
- Incomplete
- Out of date
- Misleading
We recommend you contact us first. Most updates (such as contact details) can be handled quickly without a formal application needed.
If needed, you can apply under the RTI Act. There is no application fee, but you must provide evidence of identity.

- Specify the information claimed to be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or misleading
- State what amendment/s are necessary for the information to be accurate, updated, or not misleading
