QAS-supported athletes have finished on top of the podium and booked their tickets to Paris at the second Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest. Plus QAS-supported athletics stars continue to rise on the world stage, stating their cases for Olympic selection.
Our QAS-supported park skateboarders stole the show across the men’s and women’s competitions in Budapest. 14-year-old Arisa Trew backed up her win in Shanghai with another win in the second Olympic qualifying event. Keegan Palmer overcame injuries to take home gold in the men’s event. The 21-year-old finished second overall in the qualifying series. Fellow QAS-supported skater Kieran Woolley delivered on his first run with a score of 89.16 to place sixth. The 20-year-old finished seventh overall. The trio have all secured qualifications for the Paris Olympics.
In the women’s street skateboarding event Chloe Covell delivered a dominant performance to come fifth in Budapest. The 14-year-old finished sixth overall in the rankings, qualifying her for the Paris Olympics. She’ll be joined in Paris by fellow QAS-supported skater Haylie Powell who finished 23rd.
In Freestyle BMX Natalya Diehm scored 90.86 to finish fifth at the second Olympic qualifying event. Her strong performance put her seventh overall in the rankings, qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Despite scoring in the 90s, the 26-year-old says she’s got more to give in Paris.
Congratulations to QAS talent support gymnast Ruby Pass who has been selected to compete at the Paris Games in the Women’s Artistic event. It will be the national champion’s first Olympics, as part of Australia’s largest Olympic gymnastics team. You can watch Ruby compete from the 27th of July.
26-year-old Matthew Hauser has been selected to compete at his second Olympics Games next month in Paris. The QAS-supported triathlete will be the fifth Australian man to contest two Olympics. You can watch Matt swim, cycle and run his was around Paris on July 30, and in the mixed relay on August 5th. Good luck Matt!
Newly categorised QAS athlete Peyton Craig has written himself into Australia’s history books, running the third fastest time ever by an Australian in the 800 metres. The 19-year-old won the event in a time of 1:44.12 giving him automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics.
QAS-supported javelin star Nash Lowis has won at the largest athletics event in Geneva, Athleticageneve. The 24-year-old put himself inside the Olympic ranking quota with a personal best throw of 82.4 metres.
