Race ready: Paralympians put through their paces at QAS Performance Trial

A month out from the Paris Paralympics, Sleeman Sports Complex transformed to help Paralympians with their final preparations, complete with competition announcements and crowd noises.

The QAS Performance Support team organised the Paralympics Time Trials to test how Paralympians would perform under pressure. QAS Senior Biomechanics Specialist Koji Honda said: “We’re trying to mix up a little bit of pressure in and around what they’re doing. We’re really wanting them to try and feel what it’s going to be like in Paris.”

Three-time Paralympic bronze medallist Rowan Crothers said: “Paris is going to be my third Paralympics and in my experience something always goes wrong. Tonight’s practice wasn’t just about how to swim fast, but it was about how to stay focused when something goes wrong.”

The QAS team captured critical competition data to help athletes and coaches in their final preparations before travelling to Paris.
