QUT helps athletes afford to hit the books

QAS-supported athletes have the chance to score top marks at university and in their elite sports in a scholarship partnership with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Five athletes already enrolled or commencing study at QUT will be selected for $10,000 scholarships paid over two years.

The scholarship program aims to help athletes balance training with their studies by alleviating some of the financial burden associated with elite sport.

QAS-supported water polo athlete and QUT scholarship recipient Matilda Moore said: “During semester, I can’t hold down a job with full-time uni and full-time training. So having the scholarship really helps put food on the table and pay rent.”

QAS General Manager Troy Ayres said: “We know having something away from sport is critically important for the mental wellbeing of athletes, and university study can be a very important part of that.”

Scholarship applications open for QAS-supported athletes from Sunday 28th July.
