A group of 33 high-performance coaches from 11 sports have completed a transformative four-part program designed to enhance coaching through understanding pedagogy in sport.
The Performance Pedagogy for Coaches Workshop Series, delivered by the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) in partnership with Dr. Steven Rynne from the University of Queensland, concluded its 2024 program. This innovative series helped high-performance coaches unlock a critical advantage: pedagogy — the theory and practice of how coaches coach.
By partnering with the University of Queensland, the QAS delivered a series that demystified pedagogy and turned it into practical, actionable strategies.
Coaches actively collaborated throughout the series, using a buddy system, visiting Daily Training Environments, and engaging in ongoing discussions. One coach said the workshops broadened his perspective: “This workshop series has encouraged me to seek further information on periodised learning, something I hadn’t considered before.”
Skate Coach Pete Adams shared how the workshops helped him simplify his coaching style: “I’m now focusing on using simplified language, incorporating rewards and feedback, and learning from other sports to improve my athletes’ performance.”
