QAS-supported swimmers again led Australia's charge in the pool, combining for three gold medals, two Commonwealth Games records and a string of standout performances as the nation's golden run continued in Glasgow.
QAS-supported swimmers spearheaded another dominant Australian performance at the Commonwealth Games, delivering five gold medals, two Commonwealth Games records and two memorable podium sweeps during a spectacular night at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Lani Pallister claimed her second gold medal of the Games with a commanding victory in the inaugural women’s 1500m freestyle, backing up her 400m freestyle triumph to continue her outstanding meet.
Australia then produced one of the moments of the championships in the men’s 50m freestyle, with QAS-supported trio Cameron McEvoy, Flynn Southam and Jamie Jack completing an Australian clean sweep. McEvoy stormed to gold in a Commonwealth Games record 20.97 seconds, finally adding the only major international title missing from his résumé.
“It’s nice, I feel like I have collected all the Infinity Stones,” McEvoy said.
“To sweep the podium with these boys … the depth in Australia is amazing.”
The green and gold closed the session with another Commonwealth Games record in the men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay, as QAS-supported swimmers Sam Short, Kai Taylor, Harrison Turner alongside Edward Sommerville, combined for a commanding victory.
Earlier, Ben Armbruster added bronze in the men’s 100m butterfly, while Para swimmers Victoria Belando Nicholson and Harrison Vig collected bronze medals in the women’s and men’s S9 100m backstroke respectively.
Australia’s latest haul continued its dominance of the Glasgow pool, with QAS-supported swimmers again at the forefront of the nation’s gold rush.
