QAS supported athletes impress on opening night of Australian Swimming Trials

Queensland’s top swimming talent made a powerful statement on the opening night of the 2025 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide, with 41 QAS-supported athletes delivering a wave of standout performances. QAS supported swimmers secured an impressive 15 qualifying times for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships and the World Para Swimming Championships.

Among the highlights was Alex Perkins’ double PB in the heats and finals of the 100m butterfly. Ella Ramsay continued her breakout season with a commanding win in the 200m individual medley.

In the distance events, QAS supported swimmers swept both the men’s and women’s 400m freestyle. Lani Pallister swam under four-minutes for the first time. Sam Short returned to his best, swimming very close to the time that won him gold in the 2023 World Championships.

In the Paralympic events, Alexa Leary had a world-class performance in the women’s S9 50m Freestyle, missing her own world record by just 0.01 seconds.

Key results: Alex Perkins won the Women’s 100m Butterfly (56.42 QT); Sam Short won the Men’s 400m Freestyle (3:41.03 QT); Kaylee McKeown won the Women’s 50m Backstroke (27.33 QT).
