QAS supported athletes deliver across Cycling, Swimming and Athletics

QAS supported athletes have delivered outstanding performances this week at some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, showcasing their talent, determination and resilience.

On the first day of the World Para Swimming Championships, Tom Gallagher secured a silver medal in the S10 50m men’s freestyle, while Callum Simpson earned bronze in the S8 400m freestyle, setting a new Oceania record.

Jack Ireland and Grant Patterson narrowly missed the podium, finishing strong in fourth place in their respective events.

Momentum continued to build on Day 2, with Ben Hance delivering a standout performance, setting a new World Record in the S14 100m Backstroke heats before going on to claim gold in the final.

On the track at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the men’s 4x400m relay team ran a new Australian record of 2:58.00 to qualify for the final, with QAS-supported athlete Reece Holder delivering an outstanding second leg.

Track results: Bree Rizzo (Women’s 100m), Torrie Lewis (Women’s 100m – PB), Cara Feain-Ryan (Women’s Steeplechase), Reece Holder (Men’s 400m), Gout Gout (Men’s 200m), Ky Robinson (Men’s 5000m – 4th place).

Field results: Matt Denny (Discus – 4th place), Lara Roberts (Women’s Hammer Throw), Liam Adcock (Men’s Long Jump), Camryn Newton-Smith (Heptathlon).

At the AusCycling Junior and Masters Road National Championships, Ava Robbins claimed gold in two events, the U17 Road Race and Time Trial. These performances underscore the incredible depth of talent within Queensland’s sporting community.
