IGNITE 2032: Powerful lessons from sport’s brightest minds

“The journey ahead is ours to shape.” With those powerful words from Kate McLoughlin, the IGNITE 2032 High Performance Sport Conference set the stage for a day of insights, innovation, and strategy.

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) reinforced its status as a leader in high-performance sport, bringing together over 350 high performance coaches, elite athletes and industry experts to fuel the road to LA 2028, Brisbane 2032, and beyond.

In a standout session, Cam McEvoy OAM OLY and coach Tim Lane shared their unconventional approach to swimming, which led McEvoy to become first Australian to win an Olympic medal in the men’s 50m freestyle event.

Kate McLoughlin’s keynote on leadership focused on resilience, adaptability, and trust. She reflected on leading the Australian Paralympic Team through Cyclone Larry, emphasising that strong leadership is built on connection.

Chris Fagan’s session provided a deep dive into leadership and team culture, revealing the eight-year transformation of the Brisbane Lions culminating in their 2024 AFL Premiership victory.

The final sessions explored coaching philosophies with Brad Dubberley PLY, Bec Rippon OLY, and Mel Marshall MBE, emphasising adaptation and people-first coaching.

“The energy in the room today was phenomenal,” said Troy Ayres, General Manager of QAS. “From Paris 2024 to LA 2028 and beyond. Game on!”
