From throwing, to Paddle, to Triathlon: QAS-supported athletes deliver outstanding results

From throwing, to paddling, to pedalling and more, QAS-supported athletes are getting incredible results just 73 days out from Paris 2024.

ICF Para Canoe World Championship, Hungary 

QAS-supported athlete and triple Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath is going from strength to strength in the lead up to the Paralympics, winning gold in the KL2 200m to attain his 12th world championship and taking out the bronze in the VL3 Men’s 200m at the ICF Para Canoe World Championships in Hungary. Teammate Susan Seipel won bronze in VL2 200m. A dual Paralympic medal winner, Seipel’s achievement also bodes well for her Paris Paralympics campaign.

ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup, Hungary

QAS-supported athlete Alyce Wood conquered the K1 1000m, winning gold as she prepares for her third Olympics in Paris. Tokyo champions Tom Green and Jean Van Der Westhuyzen won the gold in the K2 Men’s 500m and Pierre Van Der Westhuyzen, Jackson Collins and Noah Harvard were part of the Men’s K4 500m boat that claimed silver.

This event was the final World Cup event for the Australian team in the lead up to the Games in July.

Diamond League, Qatar

QAS-supported athlete Matt Denny took home a sensational silver medal in discus at the Diamond League in Doha with a phenomenal throw of 69.02m. It’s the Australian record-holder’s second best throw ever, demonstrating top form as he prepares for his third Olympics.

World Triathlon Championship Series, Japan

QAS-supported triathlete Matt Hauser was triumphant at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Yokohama, Japan, scoring a silver medal. Hauser’s consistent performance throughout the race despite challenging conditions in the bike leg set him up for a strong finish in the run, where he overtook fellow Queenslander and friend Luke Willian to achieve second place in the final stretch.

UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup, France

Brandon Loupos showed off his BMX brilliance, spinning his way to silver at the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup in Montpellier, France.

ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, El Salvador
Dane Henry (U18 Boys) and Ziggy Mackenzie (U16 Girls) both won gold in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in El Salvador. Team captain Henry scored a perfect 10 with a seamless full rotation, the first perfect 10 in the competition since 2022. The pair’s strong performances helped the Australian team (The Irukandjis) to the overall win.

Diving Paris 2024 Olympic test event
QAS-supported diver Maddison Keeney claimed Gold in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard, alongside diving partner Annabelle Smith (VIS), at the Paris 2024 Olympic test event. With a total of 292.77, they were well ahead of the competition at the Olympic Games Aquatics venue.
