From the Sunshine State to the slopes: YouFor2032 recruits take on Mt Buller training camp

Over two 10-day camps, three aspiring aerial skiers tackled the slopes of Mt Buller during a development camp, as part of their journey through the YouFor2032 Talent Search driven by RACQ.

The camps, designed to fast-track the athlete’s competence on skis, marked a significant step for Hannah Dowd, Erin Brunello and Liberty Stewart as they learnt more of what it would take to be a podium level Aerial Skiing athlete.

With little to no skiing experience, the trio quickly adapted under the guidance of Danny Geiger, Olympic Winter Institute Australia’s Development Head Coach and Ski Lead.

The athletes graduated from basic ski drills to confidently navigating Mt Buller’s terrain park, even beginning to land controlled jumps, an impressive feat considering their short time on skis.

Identified from their gymnastics background, they continue to train in gymnastics and trampoline at Queensland clubs while exploring the aerial skiing pathway. After just eight months in the program, their progress is a powerful reminder of the potential in Queensland’s talent pool.

The YouFor2032 program aims to discover and develop Queensland’s next generation of elite athletes across multiple sports, connecting them with the coaching and support to succeed.
