From the Playground to Podium: Paralympians inspire Queensland students

A new education program being delivered to Queensland schools is helping to break down stigma around disability and inspiring our state’s future Paralympic champions.

Delivered by Paralympics Australia, the Imagine Education program will feature Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Paralympians and Para athletes, who will share their journeys, challenge perceptions around disability and educate students about the Paralympic movement.

Paralympics Australia President Alison Creagh said: “Paralympians are champions for inclusion. They challenge stereotypes, transform attitudes and break down social barriers. As we head towards the Brisbane Paralympics in 2032, we have a unique opportunity.”

Two-time Paralympian and Paralympics Australia Education Manager Ella Sabljak PLY said the program aimed to see up to 20,000 students over the next four years.

Three-time Paralympian gold medallist Rachael Watson OAM PLY said: “How great would it be to go to these primary schools, and we’ve now got a teenager potentially on the Paralympic team … and they go, you know what, you inspired us to take up Paralympic sport.”
