QAS-supported Diamonds Cara Koenen, Liz Watson and Courtney Bruce have helped Australia strengthen its Commonwealth Games title defence, defeating England 66-47 in a blockbuster pool clash in Glasgow.
The reigning Commonwealth champions backed up their opening-round win over Tonga with another commanding performance, taking control before half-time and pulling away with a dominant third quarter to remain unbeaten.
Captain Liz Watson again steered Australia’s attack with 19 goal assists and 29 feeds, while Courtney Bruce was influential in defence as the Diamonds restricted England’s scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Sophie Garbin led the scoring with 41 goals from 42 attempts, while Kiera Austin added 15 goals and 19 goal assists as Australia proved too strong for its long-time rivals.
The victory continues Australia’s impressive record against England at the Commonwealth Games and keeps the Diamonds on track for a fifth gold medal.
