The Australian duo defeated Norazian Daud and Jariah Zakaria 9-3, 3-3, producing a clinical performance to secure progression to the knockout stage.
Hoskins and Bonnell made the perfect start, collecting four shots on the opening end to seize early control. Malaysia responded with three shots across the next two ends to close the gap, but the Queensland pair lifted when it mattered most, taking command of the first set before holding their nerve in a tense second set.
With multiple shots at a premium throughout the second set, the Australians did enough to force the draw they needed to seal victory and confirm their place in the semi-finals.
Hoskins and Bonnell will next face Scotland’s Mary Wilson and Pauline Wilson in their final sectional match before returning to the green for the semi-finals, where they will be aiming to keep Australia’s gold medal hopes alive.
The result continues Queensland’s strong contribution to Australia’s lawn bowls campaign as the Commonwealth Games enter the closing stages in Glasgow.
