QAS-Supported Wheelchair Basketball athletes Hannah Dodd and Eithen Leard will join Queenslanders Jarred Bairstow and Samuel McDaniel as Australia's 3X3 Teams set to open their Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow.
Queensland will be represented across Australia’s Basketball 3×3 and Wheelchair Basketball 3×3 teams when competition begins at the Commonwealth Games, with four athletes set to feature across the two programs.
QAS-supported athlete Hannah Dodd returns in Australia’s women’s Wombats team after helping secure silver at Birmingham 2022. Renowned for her speed, positioning and defensive work, Dodd brings valuable experience to a side aiming to go one better in Glasgow.
Fellow QAS-supported athlete Eithen Leard returns to the Commonwealth Games in the men’s Wombats team after competing at Birmingham 2022 and representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The Brisbane guard’s pace makes him a constant threat in transition as Australia chases back-to-back Commonwealth Games titles.
Queenslanders Jarred Bairstow and Samuel McDaniel have been named in the men’s Gangurrus team. Bairstow brings size, strength and veteran leadership to the Australian frontcourt after making his international debut at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup, while McDaniel has quickly established himself as a key contributor with his scoring ability and defensive pressure.
Introduced at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the fast-paced 3×3 format has quickly become one of the Games’ most exciting sports, with 10-minute matches played on a half court demanding speed, teamwork and quick decision-making.
Bairstow and McDaniel will be the first of the Queensland quartet in action, with Australia opening its men’s 3×3 Basketball campaign against New Zealand from 7pm (AEST) tonight at the SEC Centre Hall.
