QAS-SUPPORTED ATHLETES CHASING HISTORY IN GLASGOW

A defending champion, history chasing sprinters and emerging international talent are among 17 QAS-supported athletes selected to represent Australia in Athletics and Para Athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The group forms part of a 21-strong Queensland contingent selected for the Games, reflecting the depth of athletics talent across the state and the work of athletes, coaches, Athletics Australia and the broader high performance system.

The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) supports the selected athletes through their preparation and development, working alongside Athletics Australia and their coaches as they pursue success on the international stage.

Among the QAS-supported athletes selected is defending Commonwealth Games discus champion Matthew Denny, who will return to the Games seeking to retain the title he won in Birmingham.

Sprinter Lachlan Kennedy will also head to Glasgow with an opportunity to help Australia end a Commonwealth Games medal drought stretching back more than six decades in the men’s sprint events.

For hurdler Michelle Jenneke, the Games will mark a return to the city where she competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Twelve years later, she brings significant international experience to the Australian team.

The selected group also includes Reece Holder, Liam Adcock, Peyton Craig, Cara Feain-Ryan, Monique Hanlon, Georgia Harris, Ebony Lane, Calab Law, Torrie Lewis, Chloe Mannix-Power, Lara Roberts and Ky Robinson, highlighting Queensland representation across the sprints, middle-distance events, hurdles, jumps, throws and combined events.

Para athletes Nathan Jason and Ullrich Muller are also among those supported by the QAS who have earned selection, adding further experience and depth to Australia’s integrated athletics and Para athletics team.

Olympic sprinter Calab Law will also form part of Australia’s record Indigenous representation in athletics at the Commonwealth Games.

Beyond the athlete selections, two QAS performance support staff have also been appointed to support the Australian athletics team in Glasgow, reflecting the QAS’s continued contribution to Australia’s high performance system.

The athletics and Para athletics program will take place from 27 July to 1 August, with the QAS-supported athletes joining their Australian teammates in Glasgow.
