Queenslanders Ruby Pass and James Hardy are set to make their Commonwealth Games debuts as Australia’s artistic gymnastics campaign begins in Glasgow, with the pair aiming to help the nation challenge for team medals.
A QAS Talent Support Plan athlete, Pass arrives at her first Commonwealth Games after making her Olympic debut at Paris 2024. She joins an experienced Australian women’s team looking to go one better than the silver medal won at Birmingham 2022, where Australia finished just behind England.
Hardy will also make his Commonwealth Games debut as part of a new-look Australian men’s team determined to turn heartbreak into history. The Australians narrowly missed the podium at Birmingham 2022, finishing just 0.650 points behind bronze medallists Cyprus.
Australia has won more than 150 Commonwealth Games artistic gymnastics medals since the sport returned to the Games in 1990 and enters Glasgow with ambitions of adding to that tally across the team, all-around and apparatus events.
Hardy will be the first of the Queensland duo in action, taking to the floor from 7pm (AEST) tonight at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena as Australia’s men’s team begins its Commonwealth Games campaign.
