The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is committed to protecting your privacy. We understand visitors to this website are concerned about their privacy, and the confidentiality and security of personal information they provide to us.

Collection of personal information
When you visit the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) website, we collect and manage personal information in line with the IP Act.
The IP Act defines personal information as, ‘information or an opinion about an identified individual or an individual who is reasonably identifiable from the information or opinion – whether the information or opinion is true or not; and whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not’.
The QAS collects personal information to carry out its functions and activities, including delivering high performance sport programs, responding to enquiries, administering services, and improving our website and services.
Generally, we do not collect your personal information when you visit this site. Our server makes a record of your visit and logs information for statistical purposes only. This information is generally anonymous, and may include:
- your server and IP address
- the name of the top level domain
- the type of browser used
- the date and time you accessed the site
- the pages accessed and documents downloaded
- the previous site you visited
No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities unless we are lawfully required to do so for investigation or law enforcement purposes.
We may collect personal information you choose to provide through online forms provided on this website, including:
- name
- contact information including phone numbers, mailing address or email address.
Correspondence sent to email addresses on this site, or information submitted through web forms, will be treated as a public record and retained as required by the Public Records Act 2023 and other relevant legislation. It will also be subject to the provisions of the RTI Act and the IP Act.
We will use the email address you provide to us to communicate with you. In some circumstances, personal information may be transferred to, or stored on, servers located outside Australia (for example where we use cloud-based service providers or email systems). These overseas recipients may not be subject to Queensland privacy laws.
We will not use or disclose your personal information for direct marketing or unrelated purposes without your consent, unless authorised or required by law. Email messages may be monitored by our information technology staff for system troubleshooting and maintenance purposes.
Use and disclosure of personal information
We use personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, including to deliver our services, respond to enquiries, manage programs and improve our website and services.

- Queensland Government agencies where necessary
- Contracted service providers who assist in delivering our services
- Other entities where authorised or required by law.
Some service providers may be located outside of Australia. As a result, your personal information may be transferred overseas and may not be subject to the same privacy protections as under Queensland legislation.

The QAS takes reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes the use of secure systems, access control and other security measures.
Records management
The QAS manages personal information in line with the Public Records Act 2023 (Qld).
Records are kept for the required period using approved retention and disposal schedules issued by Queensland State Archives. These schedules set the minimum time we must keep records.
We do not destroy records unless it is authorised. Some records may be kept longer if needed for legal, audit or operational reasons.
When records are no longer required, they are securely destroyed or preserved as required.

This website contains links to other websites. The QAS is not responsible for the content, security and privacy practices of those websites.

We may use public communication platforms, including social media platforms, to collaborate with other government agencies, display information about the QAS, or engage with the community.
